180 Days A Teacher’s Diary Through One Epic School Year
Sofia Faye Burke
Sophia is an award-winning high school teacher of 16 years who has worked at three different school districts during her tenure. She is a teacher who is in school for her students, not for politics. She discovered the love of teaching quite accidentally as she conducted training for a firm she worked with in 1998. Sophia got her teaching degree and certification in an attempt to help students learn about computer science and the world of work.
Sophia comes from a long line of educators in her family tracking back to her Great, Great Grandfather. Teaching, as Sophia discovered, is in her blood. As a teacher of her students and as a professional as an educator, Sophia is well versed with how to balance both the daily work of educating young minds and navigating the politics of education. Coping skills are her strong suit. Sophia’s coping skills drove her to write this diary as a method to deal with her feelings of dysfunction she witnessed at school, almost daily.
Sophia lives a quiet life in North America with her animals. She loves the Northern Atlantic Ocean and all things cats, lizards, and fish. She has no children but views her students as extended family. She is an avid hiker and addicted to 80s music. Sophia decided to bring this personal diary to light after another year of turmoil in education. In Sophia’s view, unspeakable turmoil is what she has had a first-row seat to over the last few years. And so, she published.
