The Price Of Money
Rob Dix is a fund adviser, co-host of one of the UK’s most popular business podcasts, and author of four best-selling books. While he’s spent the past 12 years learning the world of money inside-out, he’s not a professional economist… which makes him the perfect person to explain how money really works.
For hundreds of years, working hard and saving up diligently would have set you up for financial security and a comfortable retirement. Not anymore. For the last 50 years we’ve been living in a whole new financial world – one that’s seeing your savings lose value faster than you can build them, asset prices boom out of reach, and most people slipping backwards however hard they try. The Price Of Money explains, in a straightforward and entertaining way, what’s changed… and what you should do now we’re here. You’ll learn why the pound has lost 99% of its value, and how to use future declines to your advantage. You’ll understand how the government produced £445bn out of thin air in response to Covid, and which investments will benefit most as a result. Most importantly, you’ll be shown what’s coming next – and how to position yourself to gain rather than suffer. You don’t need even the slightest knowledge of economics to read this book – just a desire to understand why the world of money is working against you, and what to do about it.
UK-based professional men and women in their 30s and 40s who have enough money to worry about it being eroded away.
Book cover type
The book will be 6x9. The subject matter might seem quite “heavy going” and inaccessible, but it’s actually an entertaining and easy-to-understand read. We want the front cover to reflect this somehow – which means we wish to steer clear or dark/foreboding imagery and instead aim for something bright and bold. We’re also aware, however, that we can’t go too far in the opposite direction: this is an important book that provides valuable, insightful and actionable information to people who’ll benefit financially once they’ve read it. We need to make sure the book looks important and “must read”. Childish fonts and images will make the book appear too dumbed down and unimportant. We like front covers that make use of graphics and interesting (but readable) fonts. And we’re not against anything a bit abstract. We definitely DON’T want something really literal – like an image of a £5 note being stamped on or something! The following book covers are examples of styles we like in terms of brightness and boldness. They’re also less generic than a lot of other books, and they really stand out as a result: http://99d.me/e/mpum/1xbzq6 http://99d.me/e/f3su/18x0s5 https://99designs.co.uk/profiles/armejndi/designs/638089 https://99designs.co.uk/profiles/3527055/designs/1827401 https://99designs.co.uk/profiles/cgrkoc/designs/1786215 https://99designs.co.uk/profiles/cgrkoc/designs/1786212
What to avoid
See above regarding steering clear of dark/foreboding imagery, childish fonts, childish images and literal imagery. Additionally, we don’t like books that use stock imagery or photography in general. Note that this is a book targeted at a UK audience, where the currency is the pound sterling (£) – so if you do use a currency symbol (which we don’t necessarily want), make it £ rather than $. We also really wish to avoid the styles of front covers that seem to be used everywhere these days for financial/money-making books – partly because they’re overused, and partly because we find them really cringey!
