I am a gender therapist (a mental health counselor who works with the transgender/gender non-conforming population). I am currently writing a book called YOU AND YOUR GENDER IDENTITY: A GUIDE TO DISCOVERY and need a cover for it.
I need a full-color cover that is 8 1/2 x 11". The challenge for this type of book is that it is difficult to be all-inclusive of everyone who will want to use this book.
Gender identity exploration is such a broad area, so the cover cannot make anyone feel excluded.
It's been suggested to me that I use an image that reflects the discovery/journey process (it is referred to throughout my book).
The target age group will vary, but more than likely the highest will be ages 18-35, with older teenagers coming in a close second.
NOTE: After receiving several submissions (thank you all, by the way) I should make it clear what should NOT be on the cover:
- rainbow colors
- any female/male symbols (restroom signs, the glyph)
- nothing stereotypical of females/males
It would be really useful if you have at least somewhat of an inclining as to what it means to have gender identity confusion, as well as an understanding of what it means to be transgender/gender non-conforming.
The images I've attached are just ideas for the "journey/discovery" slant - I'm no designer so pardon their simplicity. :) Any other imagery for the "discovery process" is welcome!
