I have written a mathematics book called "Vergiss (i.e.: Forget) alles (i.e.: Everything) übers (i.e.: About) Rechnen (i.e.: Calculating).
The subtitle is "Wie man die 4 Grundrechnungsarten wahrhaftig meistert." ("How to veritably master the four basic arithmetical operations.")
I would also like to have a back cover for the book, but I have not yet decided on which text to put on the back cover.
I have attached the latest drafts of chapters 3 and 4 to allow you to get an idea of the book.
I have also attached three Non-examples to the brief (pictures that I would not like to have on the cover).
WHAT I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE
(*) If this book is successful, I would like to publish other books like this one. I would like to have a cover, which can be used as basis for more books. If you win the contest, I would probably like to employ you for the other book covers as well.
Example: Take for example the Harry Potter books. Each book is unique, but one can notice at once that all books are from the same book series.
Another example you may find here:
All books are from the same book series and one notices the similar design.
(*) I would like to have a cover that looks appealing to teenagers. However, it is not intended for primary school children! So it should not be in any way childlike or extremely colourful or contain drawings that are only suitable for little children.
(*) I have a suggestion, how the cover MIGHT look like. Please note that I am not a very creative person, so you being an expert might have a much better idea.
My idea is the following: The book cover could contain a head which has instead of a brain a vegetable in it (like in this book cover: http://www.amazon.de/Stroh-Kopf-Vom…083931/ref.
Or a person with a vegetable instead of a head.
Please note, however, that my suggestions may not be the best ones! You might come up with better ones!
WHAT I WOULD NOT LIKE TO HAVE
(*) I would not like to have any association with negative stereotypes of mathematics. The book cover should not look nerdy. I would not like to have a guy with glasses looking as if he would ponder concentratedly.
(*) I would not like to have geometrical figures floating around. These always make maths book covers look boring and dull.
(*) I would not like to have too many numbers floating around. If you want, a few numbers are OK. But these should definitely not be the main element of the cover.
(*) I do not like the standard results you get when you go on Google Images and type in “mathematics”.
(*) I have attached three Non-examples to the brief (nerdy guy, geometrical figures, too many numbers).
I would like to have a book cover that looks intriguing to young people and makes them feel interested in mathematics. It should make people passionate about the Queen of Science!
