One idea might be to show a poker table with everyone's hands (both literal and the cards) and then have the cat under the table, clawing at the table cloth leaving it in shreds, and all you can see are the cat's yellow eyes under the table and maybe its tail. Just a thought. Clearly I am not a designer. :)
NOTES ABOUT MAIN CAST OF CHARACTERS - CONTEXT ONLY
This is a funny book. There are elements of mystery, but more than anything, it's a silly, fun read where I hope readers will fall in love with the characters, as it is very much a character-driven novel. The main characters are:
Earleen - lead character, funny, kind of lazy, wants to be a professional poker player, doesn't like to work very hard.
Bobby Don - Earleen's good old boy husband. Good natured fellow who is loyal and although he'd never admit it, loves being in the big middle of the drama.
Destiny - always wants to do the right thing, cautious, thinks she's a psychic. Collects things, like windmill art.
Marsha - large black woman who likes to get out of the house. She's just along for the ride. Collects wigs. Has a smart mouth and routinely loses jobs because of it. Scared senseless of Ruby's black cat.
Shirley - foul-mouthed, attractive, large breasted woman who lives one door down from Earleen. Has been married four times and is now in love with one of the cops investigating the old lady. His name is Ben. She also has a collection of naughty t-shirts.
Denny - silly, gay fellow who is very intelligent, but very much a smart ass. Says and does things to aggravate all the boyfriends/husbands. He's dating the other cop who's investigating Ruby. HIs name is Toby.
Ruby - the 80-something cagey old woman who looks a bit younger, and has a purple tint to her hair. She is somewhat fashionable, and a little uppity, but in the end, is a total con artist.
Daisy - Ruby's evil black cat who hisses at everyone who comes near it. Especially Marsha, who is now terrified of all cats, just on principle.
