What's your vision?
I would like a book cover designed for a client which will be published as a printed version on Createspace.com and as an ebook version through KDP Amazon. The most urgent is the KDP amazon cover (simply front cover) which I need in 7 days. The second is the printed version (front and back covers) which I need in 10 days. The book will be entitled 'Sara's Liberation' by Sara Francis. It is based on a true story, but is written in erotic fiction style. This book is to be published on the back of the success of Fifty Shades of Grey and should appeal to a similar target audience. In a nutshell: Sara, the author, was born in wartorn Yugoslavia. She was tortured by the Nazis where they burnt her hair off and left permanent scars at the age of 4. Forever after that, she was forced to wear a wig. Her hair and beauty are central themes throughout the book. She escapes to Australia and tries to make a life for herself. But her marriage to an Australian fails. A major theme throughout this book is survival and freedom. She is a very beautiful woman and wears a wig of long dark rich hair. All she wants to do is meet a kind man and fall in love, but she is always disappointed when these men discover her secret that she is permanently disfigured and that her beautiful hair is just a wig. She then turned to prostitution to survive and eventually becomes hard-headed madame of a brothel, always kind, but always wondering where her dreams vanished to, but always hoping that one day those dreams come true. She always has hope for a better life. Faith, hope, survival and freedom are also central themes. Sara, the author, would like to see the cover with the following elements in it (but you are free to be as creative as you like with the cover and we welcome your innovative ideas). The major picture must be a beautiful woman with long rich dark hair with a wistful mysterious look, looking away into the distance mystically (not at the reader). She wants to be wearing lipstick. The look should say 'Why have I been dealt this?, Why has my life turned out like this?' but not in a victim way. A smaller element must be a man - dark hair, well dressed, elegant, attractive, more of a silhouette. This man could represent her clients, her former husband or the man she yearns for. But leave the reader uncertain as to who this man is. Red for the lips (colour in some parts and black and white in others). The title should be in large letters 'Sara's liberation'. And her name Sara Francis in smaller type. I've included some cover designs we both like and the back cover blurb for the book (which should go on the back cover of the printed version (for Createspace) and not the Kindle version. It might be good to keep a familiar feel of the Fifty Shades of Grey cover. I also like the two covers I found on the internet and some on Amazon.
Here are the cover specs for KDP amazon covers: https://kdp.amazon.com/self-publishing/help?topicId=A2J0TRG6OPX0VM These are the guidelines for covers from Createspace.com Safe Zone Text and images must be at least .125" inside the trim lines to ensure that no live elements are cut during the bookmaking process. Title and Author Name Your book's title and the author's name must appear on the cover exactly as it was entered during the title setup process. Images Images may be CMYK or RGB color. All images should be sized at 100%, flattened to one layer and placed in your document at a minimum resolution of 300 DPI. The spine of your book Every book will vary slightly when bound. Allow for 0.0625" variance on either side of the fold lines for your cover. For example, if your spine width is 1", your text should be no wider than 0.875". Because of this variance, avoid hard edges or lines that end on the fold line. For books with 130 pages or less, we strongly recommend a blank spine. Blank spines are required for books with less than 101 pages. Barcode When your files go through the review process, our system will place your ISBN barcode in a 2" by 1.2" white box in the lower right-hand corner of your book's back cover. Our standard trim size templates will show you exact barcode placement. Images or text in the barcode location will be covered when the book is printed. Make sure no important elements appear where the barcode will be placed. If you choose to provide and place your own barcode, be sure it is a high-resolution image. Prepare for Printing The printable area of your document must be the right size, including bleed. Make sure the printable area is centered within your document. Make sure all live elements are inside the safe zone. Export your file as a print-ready PDF. Be sure fonts are embedded. The maximum accepted file size for your book cover is 40 MB.
