Woollardbenjamin got their new book cover by running a design contest:
Science Fiction Novel Needs Artistic Cover Design
Check out Woollardbenjamin's Book cover contest…
I'm a writer based out of the Pacific Northwest. My work covers a wide range of topics, but I am especially interested in fiction and the exploration of ideas through art.
Light Bearing is a novel about a post-collapse United States in which everything has devolved into a number of settlements with a central government attempting to spread control. A group of people claiming to have a device capable of merging the consciousness of individuals into a whole arises and begins preaching this unification as the future of the human race. The story focuses on the experiences of two central characters who are caught between the government and this new group.
Target audience is an adult audience, above the age of 25, mostly men.
I need a cover to be 2400 pixels in height, and 1600 in width. Looking for something graphic/artistic (rather than built from stock photos) but I am open to anything. Suggestions for imagery are something incorporating the symbols of a lantern, the sun/sunrise, etc, at these are significant symbols in the book. Preferably the cover will be reminiscent of the scifi genre. I've included files of covers I like.
What to avoid
I would prefer original artwork rather than stock imagery
It all began with a design brief.
A quick, interactive guide helped them understand their design style and captured exactly what they needed in their book cover.
Designers across the globe delivered design magic.
Woollardbenjamin collaborated with designers to refine their ideas
When design entries come in, you can rate them so designers know what you’re looking for in your logo design.
99designs has great collaboration tools so you can pinpoint and capture your ideas
And then… they selected a winner!
Was blown away by his very first attempt at the cover, it just needed one or two minor tweaks. Looks better than what almost all traditional publishers are putting out.
Along the way, they met lots of talented designers…
We think contests are a super fun way to get design.
