I need a 'graphic abstract' for an academic paper that I have written.
What inspires you and how do you envision the design for your business?
This review is written for climate experts dissatisfied with current approaches for contributing to societal responses to climate change. Cutting across multiple disciplines, we review the origins and nature of the knowledge deficit model, showing that it is the underlying basis for how experts imagine and conduct their interactions with publics. Our review will challenge climate experts by demonstrating that educative approaches such as ‘information transfer’, ‘education’, and ‘communications’ are inadequate if their goal is to influence behaviour by publics. We demonstrate that the prevailing means of contributing to socio-scientific controversies available to experts are crippled, not by public indifference or ignorance, but by experts’ allegiance to the assumption that information will prompt behaviour change. While educative approaches will inevitably be part of how experts interact with publics, the long-standing intransigence of publics in the context of climate change suggests a need to broaden the scope of approaches experts are willing to undertake. We propose relationship building as an alternative that avoids resuscitating the deficit model.
