1) I want a cd cover design that is modern, cool, emphasizes the blue green color but uses other colors for contrast.
2) I think 2 light and transparent overlapping double exposure photos of me looking forward and profile view can be included but not given too much emphasis. I want the emphasis to be on the arty design. My face and hat can be hinted at – but the eyes are important. There can be images behind my face
3) The sample designs I posted below my brief will give you some ideas of what I’m looking for in a design. Especially look at the Humanize photo for the shade of green and the way the exposures are done
This is a 4 panel CD cover design but the main artwork will be on the front and the back panels. The inside panels can be the same as the front and back or very similar and panel 3 might just be one color as it will hold the cd which will have an image as same as the front cover embossed on it. It's called a 4 panel "eco wallet" design with spine 139. You can download the template and read the instructions for formatting here at the CD Baby website.
CD Title – Eric Bray
some Blues some Happies
(notice the lower case on the words "some" above
Title - I call the CD "some Blues some Happies" because about half the songs are blues songs and the others are a new genre of music in contrast to the Blues I’m calling - "Happies".
Album Cover Design Ideas
A general point - I want a design that is modern, cool and emphasizes beauty, spaciousness, depth some abstract elements. Since this is a singer songwriter album I guess a photo of me is necessary but the emphasis should be on the artwork and cool design, not me. As you can see from the sample images I have uploaded, I like a double image with one face forward another in profile.
Front Cover (1st panel) - For the front cover I think it is good to work with the idea of this duality of Blues and Happies. The colors used and the style of the art will hopefully signal what the music is about. I have created a Pinterest board where I collected design ideas that appeal to me and may point in a good direction. You will notice my interest in the color blue/green and think this could be the major color...Please try to get close to the bluegreen color on the Humanize photo in my brief.
Notice the transparent double facial images. I uploaded a variety of photos of me on a pinterest board which you can use to do this with.
I like some depth so the cover looks 3D. I think the main image should probably be surrounded by a lighter colors (or darker if the image is light) so it will stand out even in a smaller thumbnail 1 inch X 1 inch used in online downloads and streaming sites like iTunes and Bandcamp sales format. I will press a few hundred physical cds as well.
Back Cover (4th panel) - The back should have the 10 song titles and the run times for each.
1. Another Day 2:28
2. I Got a Weakness (for being adored) 3:42
3. Take the Memories and Run 3:25
4. Since You’ve Been Gone 3:39
5. This Day 3:06
6. Ofuro (Bathtub) Happies 3:13
7. Such Loveliness 3:15
8. Bad Girl 3:45
9. Still Dancing 4:24
10. Cada Flor (Bachata Remix) 3:40
Inside Cover - There will be a credits section at the bottom of either the 2nd or 3rd panel. The last line of the album title - and one Bachata! can be on the front or on the second panel.

About the music – you can listen to the tracks here on Soundcloud:
The music is mainly upbeat rock tunes with blues and country blues overtones, but there are slow tunes as well. It sounds pretty retro but I don’t want a retro cover (despite the hat!)
Lyrics - I'm a fan of Elvis Costello, Randy Newman, Wilco, Radiohead and lyrically my songs follow in this singer/songwriter mode of trying to bring a bit of heart and humor to foibles of love, renewal of the heart, joys? of ageing and the like.
I look forward to seeing what you come up with. Don't hesitate to ask me questions to clarify what I have written here.
Thanks for your efforts! Eric
