How Leslie5354 started their landing page design journey
Who are you known as?
Tell us a bit about who you are and the people you reach
We offer classes, articles (Wordpress site) and networking (Xenforo forum) for writers of commercial fiction (romance, scifi, etc...anything fiction, not literary). The majority of our users are writers in the Romance, Fantasy &SF, Young Adult, and children's genres. Most of our members are women between 25-55. Our members are world-wide but most are in the US, Canada, Europe and Australia. Many are published both in print and online.
What industry do you think your business is most related to?
we have two: ce.savvyauthors.com (front page & registration) and our forums at savvyauthors.com/Community.
What do you have in mind for the style and theme of the landing page?
We had a logo done here a couple of years ago. We like it. We use the idea of a tree and growth. I'd like to keep our current logo and make a fun and engaging landing page where our members (and members to be) can get a sense of what we are offering.
Because we are both a social network and a learning site the page should be fun but also informational. I tend to not like the single photo image that I see on a lot of sites right now. Illustrations are great and I want to be sure it's very clear where to click to learn more about our site, membership benefits, upcoming classes and events.
Elements to include in the landing page
Links to content (Blog), Featured/upcoming classes/events, signup form, registration. If we go with something that has images from books, genre and writing then we'd need those as well.
Perhaps scrollable to would be footer stuff and any details of the upcoming events/classes.
I expect to update event-specific content on this page weekly highlighting one or two major upcoming events, so a location for this would be helpful.
We are moving our front page from a custom solution (ce.savvyauthors.com) to the front page that will be a part of a Xenforo Forum and link to a WordPress blog. We sell two things: membership and classes. We want to emphasize our class offerings and what our membership gives them (networking and some tools and access to our special events where we bring in publishers and editors). We will need a place on the landing page to highlight upcoming events, a teaser is fine.
I've been trying to do themed headers..in our Facebook, Twitter and Google+ pages, and also the header of the Xenforo forums. I have attached a few of these below so you can see what I liked. It would be great if I could continue this on the landing page.
It would be perfect if the scrolling were minimal. A bit of scrolling for details would be fine but I want the main click-through points in an area that you don't need to scroll to get to.
