Anxieties of Democracy
This logo will be used for a program called "Anxieties of Democracy", which is run out of the Social Science Research Council.
The Social Science Research Council is a non-profit organization that promotes social science for the public good. We encourage social science research on important and relevant topics, and work to get that research highlighted in broader public discourse.
The SSRC’s Anxieties of Democracy program promotes primarily political science research into how modern liberal democracies are performing, and how we can make them work better. We organize conferences, publish short think pieces, and give out research grants.
Here is the mission statement of our program:
"The SSRC's Anxieties of Democracy program is motivated by a concern about whether the core institutions of representative democracies can capably address large problems in the public interest. The program promotes research and dialogue on a range of topics related to democratic functioning, for example asking how democracies can effectively respond to climate change, deal with challenges to national security, and address the political consequences of a changing economy."
The logo will primarily be used in written communication online, but also in hard-copy event programs or on letterheads. We would also make the logo (or part of it) our Twitter banner or avatar. We really like the image of a "Democracy" statue in Vermont that is currently our banner image both on our website (https://www.ssrc.org/programs/view/…democracy/) and on Twitter (https://twitter.com/SSRCanxieties), and would welcome a design that either complements or replaces this image.
