Girl Hackathon
MISSION
The mission of the Girl Hackathon is to create a positive environment for girls to use technology which will seed a lifelong interest in the field.
THE PROGRAM
The Girl Hackathon is an opportunity for 3rd – 6th grade girls to code together. The pilot program, scheduled to take place May 1, 2016 at the Museum of Science, will bring together a group of approximately 20 girls for an afternoon of coding. Working in self-selected teams of two, the girls will use a coding app to create a game based on specific guidelines (the “lesson plan”) during the first half of the afternoon. During the second half of the afternoon, the girls will play the games created by their peers and provide feedback.
The goal of The Girl Hackathon is to create an experience where girls can code in an environment that is:
- Collaborative
- Empowering
- Fun
THE ORGANIZERS
The Girl Hackathon was created by a group of women in technology. Understanding the opportunities that are opened when technology is embraced, their goal is to create an event that will empower girls to think of technology as an experience that is creative, fun and exciting.
I'd like to explore the following colors:
Aquas: Empathy, compassion, clarity and precision.
Let designers make suggestions:
Pinks: Intimacy, love, calm and nurture.
We love the idea of pinks, black/white and aqua/teal color schemes. I've attached a logo of a company that I love and would love to emulate something like this. I like the cutout-type design. I love that it's a badass girl - the company that this is from is called Spitfire Athlete. If we could have something similar, but that suggests a girl who codes (maybe glasses? maybe hair up? maybe no superhero forehead band? not sure.). I'd love to see what you guys come up with that pulls from this type of design concept.
