brianCP got their new logo design by running a design contest:
Create a logo for a Pest Management Lab that blends biology with technology
Check out brianCP's Logo design contest…
The McCornack Field Crop Integrated Pest Management Laboratory (aka the McLab) is an integrated research program that facilitates the discovery and application of tangible solutions to emerging pest issues. We focus on the conservation of good bugs to combat the bad bugs. We work with lots of different cropping systems (soybean, sorghum, corn, wheat, canola) and design mobile tools to for use on smartphones to diagnose problems. We also incorporate drone technologies and sensors to sample pests in crops.
Although we focus on pest management, I want to emphasize sustainability and it's importance to pest management. We do this on multiple levels, from satellite date down to pictures taken from a mobile device. Diagnose the problem, then find a solution. We need to know about the biology first, research it, then push that information out to farmers to help them make informed decisions. Our tag line for the lab is "blending biology with technology." I want the option of using that with the logo, but the logo should reflect this concept.

And then… they selected a winner!
My initial idea for "a simple altar" was to stay true to the name itself - simple, clean sharp lines, a little color, and even a touch of the abstract. The altar idea was more that of a table around which good friends gather and enjoy one another's presence and ideas. Of all the designs - and there were many good ones - this design kept rising to the surface for its simple elegance and icon. The five polls I sent out always had this design at or near the top by many friends with web design and logo expertise of their own. In the end, the designer delivered what I originally desired - sharp lines, color, and simple beauty.
Along the way, they met lots of talented designers…
