Zeetix got their new logo design by running a design contest:
$200 Logo for Web 2.0 Startup -- Guaranteed Winner
Check out Zeetix's Logo design contest…
Zeetix is a startup company that makes web-based mapping software available to everyone. Our logo must, like our site, convey our excitement about the new web we are forging. As our business explodes, our customers will ask us to recommend designers for THEIR sites.
What's your vision?
Desired Style: --The logo should be simple enough to be distinct as a small graphic on a web page (the exact size will vary, but about the size of the "start a contest" logo that SitePoint uses on this page (http://www.sitepoint.com/images/marketplace/buttons/addcontest Accepted File Formats: Photoshop (psd) UPDATE 2: Just to be clear, several of us (of both genders) collaborate on reviewing and commenting on these entries. We are blown away by the quality of the submissions and the responsiveness of this community. Some of us have worked with agencies in the past, and we see these "comps" as far superior to any agency we've encountered. UPDATE: Many of our feedback comments have been similar, so we wanted to give some added tips here: 1. Many entries have a graphical element which is separate from the text name. Ideally we would prefer it if the graphical element and the text element worked together in a unified way (positive examples are Alneo #4, lemuriadesign #2, and mudeth #1). 2. Many entries have an excellent look, but do not convey the idea of mapping or finding items. Since (unfortunately) our name does NOT convey mapping, we need to logo to do it for us (positive examples are Alneo #4, mudeth #1, and mattyK #1). 3. Many entries seem rather heavy....we prefer the entries where the logo conveys energy, power, or some other dynamic feel to it (positive examples are mudeth #1 and lemuriadesign #2). BELOW IS THE ORIGINAL POSTING: Zeetix (legal name is "Zeetix, LLC") is a startup company that provides mapping software. The logo will be used for business cards and our web site. MOST OFTEN, however, our software would be embedded on a web page owned by a business or individual with a small version of our logo that says "Map Powered by Zeetix" on the page. Therefore, we would like our logo to meet the following criteria: --The logo should be simple enough to be distinct as a small graphic on a web page (the exact size will vary, but about the size of the "start a contest" logo that SitePoint uses on this page (http://www.sitepoint.com/images/marketplace/buttons/addcontest.png). --The logo colors and style should distinctive enough to stand out on someone else's page (that may have a completely different style and color scheme). --Submissions should include some form of the logo that can be used as a 16x16 pixel favicon. It does not necessarily have to be the whole logo (for example, Google, just uses the letter "G" and SitePoint just uses their orange and blue icon), but the 16x16 pixel version must be distinctive. --Submissions will get "extra credit" if it works in grayscale as well as color (i.e., it copies and faxes well). This is NOT a requirement, but would help us pick between two excellent color designs. The following ideas/concepts are NOT required, but are provided to help generate conceptual ideas: --Zeetix is a TECHNICAL software company --Zeetix software is POWERFUL --Zeetix needs to be thought of as RELIABLE, a mix of stability with "edginess" would work --Traditional Mapping iconography (e.g., map, globes, compass, North/South/East/West, pushpins on a map, etc.) could be used (but is NOT required) --The Logo probably can't be more than 2 colors in order to work at both large and small sizes (it is NOT a requirement that it be 2 color, but we'd be surprised if more than 2 colors works) Examples we like are the modern classic logos from Apple, Adobe, and Google.
