WeGotApps got their new app design by running a design contest:
UI Solutions for a Fun & Contemporary Mobile Social App!
Check out WeGotApps's App design contest…
Our app allows millions of users to chat with friends while discovering new people and cool things to do nearby.
1) We're looking for beautiful flat design that's mobile-friendly, offers a great sense of visual space, and is stylish while possessing classic appeal. 2) We love a balance of clean, intuitive, content-focused design and vibrant colours that suggest a fun, hip and upbeat environment (it may be helpful to keep in mind that we will use the same theme for both iOS and Android versions). 3) Basic fonts for iOS and Android devices are fine. 4) Finally, since we are targeting a diverse global demographic, please make sure that your design can appeal to a variety of age groups, cultures and genders.
HUD Please keep in mind that regardless of feature, the HUD structure for this app is as follows: - Header Bar: Displays interface name and any secondary features that are needed, such as search and filter - Tab Bar: Displays 5 main tabs that lead to core features/interfaces. These include Nearby, Moments, Chat, Contacts, and More Feature Screens 1) Nearby - As the first screen that users see upon entering the app, the Nearby feature displays a list of other users who are in physical proximity to the user. Information shown include users': - Profile Picture - Name - Age - Gender - Distance from you - Time since last login - The City in which they currently reside - The Relationships that they are seeking for (Friendship, Relationship and Casual Dating), and - A preview of their signature/self introduction (taken from the About Me section on their Profile page). There is also a shortcut to our Communities feature that is embedded in the People Nearby list. Tapping the header bar takes users to the Communities list, whereas tapping on either Community profiles take users directly to the Community's profile. To give you an idea of how this screen relates to other interfaces, here is a summary of gestures that are supported on this screen: - Swipe up/down to scroll - Pull down to refresh - Tap on any user to view their profile - Swipe left/right to toggle between other related features such as Local Chatrooms and Events - Tap the Filter button (top left on the header bar) to activate the filter menu 2) Moments - A feed that allows users to see what their friends are up to and share their photos and thoughts on the go. All the normal "Feed" function should be included (e.g. timestamp, likes, comments, etc). Similar to the Nearby interface, users can also swipe left and right to access two additional screens. The first of which is an Activities screen, in which updates about comments, likes and shares are aggregated and shown. The second is a Nearby screen that displays posts made by other users in the area. 3) My Messages - The third tab displays all of a user's messages based on recency. All mainstream chat inbox features apply. 1-on-1 and group chats should be clearly differentiated. 4) Chat - A basic chat interface that can support both 1-on-1 and group chat. Users can share photos, videos, audio recordings, stickers, emoticons, locations and links to other users' profiles within the chat. 5) User Profile - Where users can see each other's basic information and manage their friend status. Information displayed include a Profile Photo, Cover Photo, Name, Age, Gender, the City in which the user currently resides, the Relationships that they are seeking (Friendship, Relationship or Casual Dating), a brief About Me/Signature section, and their Hobbies & Interests. A timeline of posts (Moments) that the user has made should also be accessible by tapping the "Status" module that's above the "About Me" section.
What to avoid
Due to potential localization constraints, please make sure that buttons and other UI modules that contain text are not too close together. This will make it easier for us to accommodate lengthier languages in the future.
