OrangeDog Designs got their new other art or illustration by running a design contest:
Christmas tree illustration/design original art needed
Check out OrangeDog Designs's Other art or illustration contest…
I make specialty stenciled craft items for sale to consumers via craft shows, and hopefully catalogs.
What's your vision?
Multiple awards possible. The design will be translated into a 2 color stencil to be used as part of a larger project. I will happily award multiple winners if the designs work for me. Art MUST be original--no stock art please or embellished stock art. The concept: A Christmas tree. Pretty simple. Color doesn't matter--make it bold, make it traditional, but the tree design has to be made into a stencil, so keep that in mind. See notes about stencil making in the comments section. --- Two color tree, other embellishments are unlimited. Single color submissions will be considered but I have to be able to cleanly break the design down into 2 roughly equally weighted color segments. --- White/Negative space is not a color. --- Vertically oriented – Dimensions need to scale to roughly about 3:2 ratio (see example art provided) --- Trees should also have a base/stand/trunk element and a tree topper element. These can be separated from the tree as independent components but are not the focal point of the project. --- You can add design embellishments like ornaments or flowers to showcase your tree, but they will most likely be eliminated (or largely removed) from the final design in production--so go lightly with them (Pic 1 is a good example of too much embellishment). --- White or negative space is good! See example pic of 2color tree. Im using the tree as a base design, so don't be afraid that your work looks incomplete or unbalanced---I can see through that. I am open to multiple interpretations, modern, traditional, funky, cubist, show me what you've got! If I can work with the design and think it will lend itself to my projects, I'll happily buy it. What I like about the art samples provided: I like the swirly nature of them, flowing lines, and open spaces. But I'm open to other interpretations within the given parameters. My prototype is the last file pic...2color tree. The 003 pic is also a prototype but out of scale (too thin) not the best ratio--but you get the idea. It actually has three colors--I can work with that, but the base is too complex for what I want...the topper is nice. Pic 4 has the look/feel with 2 colors but is too dense for my application. Same with pic 2 (golden tree). If you have questions, ASK ME!!! I want a design/s as much as you want the award. Good luck, and have fun.
Keep referencing the brief...Im changing it as I learn how to hone in and give better direction. Remember, the key criteria is the basic tree design...but I want to see what you can come up with, multiple awards are possible for this contest. Leave enough open space in the design so that it isnt crowded, combinations of heavy and medium lines translate well in stencils (think shadowing or outlining).
Every design category has flexible pricing for all budgets. Other art or illustration starts at €319.
