pd4 got their new web page design (coded) by running a design contest:
http://www.microscopes.com - CSS/Color/Style redesign - No/Minimal changes to the existing HTML template
Check out pd4's Web Page Design (Coded) contest…
We want to change the color palette of http://www.microscopes.com/ from its test colors to more earthy / warm tones. We have not come up with a color palette we liked & would like to run a contest to see more variations to find something that will work. Our existing CSS should be edited to change the colors, fonts, etc (minor HTML mods will be considered). We also expect you to create and/or modify a few images that are used in the existing template to match your new proposed Look&Feel
What's your vision?
Desired Color Scheme: warm / earthy colors, but we are pretty open Desired Style: warm / earthy colors, but we are pretty open - see examples Accepted File Formats: CSS in plain text + plus images We want to change our test color palette and feel of http://www.microscopes.com/ from its current test color set to more earthy / warm colors and tones. We have not come up with a nice color palette that we liked and that is why would like to run a contest to see many variations and find something that will work well. Only CSS should be edited to change the colors / fonts / etc (minor HTML modification can be considered, but not desired) just edit our existing CSS. We also expect you to modify / replace / edit a few of existing images that are used in the template for the site to match your proposed look&Feel (http://images.microscopes.com/guarantee.gif, http://images.microscopes.com/contact-us.gif, etc). That includes the color combination for our existing logo - the actual existing logo design http://images.microscopes.com/logo.gif (but not its color combination!) we find acceptable! If you really want to suggest something different as a logo to match your new design, we will consider it, but it is not necessary. Microscopes.com is an online store that will sell microscopes and laboratory equipments and supplies. We are looking for a clean design, not flashy/bright as it is now. In addition to the color change, we would like to add a large image/ photo or a collection of images to make the home page http://www.microscopes.com/ more visually pleasing (see large images here http://www.tactical-store.com/ and see more examples below) Minor changes (image match) will have to be done to the product page template as well (example: http://www.microscopes.com/ms-la-mi-sf.html ) - see instructions below We would like you to edit our existing CSS file located here http://images.microscopes.com/global.css and as a final result we expect to get a single CSS file to replace what we have and a set of images that to replace our existing buttons, logo and supplemental images. During the contest, feel free to use a screen shot of our home page to edit in your favorite image editor or your can download your own local copy of HTML of http://www.microscopes.com/ home page and play with your local copy of our current CSS http://images.microscopes.com/global.css , and then post a screen shot of your local copy for review we will make sure to comment! Instructions: 1. Only CSS changes no template modifications / HTML changes to the page header or the main menu. 2. Three image sections at the top (page header) (Contact Us, 100% Guarantee, and the Store Logo) can be changed to match the color pallet. The font size for the contact phone number 800-504-5901 should be larger in the Contact Us image. 3. 6 icons on the product page http://www.microscopes.com/ms-la-ma-sf-ao2x.html should be modified to match the overall design change- Free S&H, Printable Version, Tell A Friend, Best Deal Guarantee, Ask An Expert, Volume Discount, Price Quote 4. Add to cart image design should be changed to mach the rest of the redesign. 5. We need to add a large image/images to the front page, but it must look /work well for a page design with resizable/100% width of the page. We would prefer no Flash, but will consider Flash for main graphics on the home page if we cannot get a nice design without it see examples below for nice implementations that we like. You can use any microscope image from our site or any stock photo (we will buy the image all images must be legal to use!). Examples of what we like: 1. http://money.cnn.com/lifestyle/index.html - 1. PROS: nice color combinations, and we plain image rotation with JS (no flash) with text. 2. CONS: Fixed width design 2. http://www.walmart.com/ / http://www.sears.com / http://www.luxurylifestyle.com 1. PROS nice clean front page design with an image 2. CONS: Fixed width design, use of Flash (but a really nice use of Flash) 3. http://www.endless.com/ and its Mens / Womens shoe section pages 1. PROS: warm, earthy colors, clean front page design with an image/images, text navigation in the middle of the image or supporting smaller images on the section pages. 2. CONS: Fixed width design, use of Flash (but a really nice use of Flash) 4. http://www.ems.com/ 1. PROS nice clean front page design with an image 2. CONS: Fixed width design, fonts would work for scientific type of the store too funky 5. http://store.babycenter.com/home.do 1. PROS nice clean front page design with a very original solution image for the front page image 2. CONS: Fixed width design, not the best color combination 6. http://www.kohls.com/main/home.jsp 1. PROS nice front page image design without Flash with plain text links 2. CONS: Front page images are too busy. CONS: Fixed width/height design, dark colors.
