One Jump got their new web page design by running a design contest:
Create a hip landing page for One Jump
Check out One Jump's Web page design contest…
OneJump aims to provide opportunities to students from underserved communities and targets four categories of people concerned with educational advancement: sponsors, teachers, enrichment opportunity providers, and of course students. The opportunity providers lists influential experiences that students can apply for and attend; teachers help sign up their students and keep them responsible, and sponsors/OneJump helps low-income students fundraise to attend the experiences they want once they are accepted. Our main target audience is to remain interesting, appealing, and most of all COOL to high school students, particularly those from diverse backgrounds (African-American, Latino, Native-American, Asian-American, and white students who are going to be 1st generation college graduates)
- pastel possibly - light - possibly based off shades of orange and blue and white in logo -MUST seem cool, interesting, and hip to underserved (low-income) students, particularly those of diverse (Latino, African-American, Native American, etc) communities from the age range of 12-17. Also, MUST be easy for tech/illiterate teachers to understand Textures: - smooth -Shapes: - more rounded, less obvious shapes and more flow Photography: -lots of photos + ample space for videography -less focused on "edu" babble and more focused on appealing to adolescents Typography: - simple, neat, professional -no times new roman, calibri, comic sans (absolute no)
Homepage: has multi-functional log-in to create account, how One Jump works/its point, a brief description of how it works, validation from partners/student testimonials, a leaderboard, slider. Profile page (post-login): photo, student information, academic information, applications Opportunities page: allows students to browse through opportunities they are interested in depending on a variety of filters.
What to avoid
no dark colors, no complicated fonts, no super bright colors, NO NEON colors
The point of this website is to be clear and simple to follow. This is meant to be accessible to all age groups, so making it very easy to use is the key. Make sure to keep in mind the target audience is usually unsavvy teachers/students and it should be intuitive while still having some simple, guiding instructions in the necessary places (i.e. post-login page telling the student where to go to begin filling out profile or finding opportunities). However, we want it to also be possibly edgy to appeal to teen demographics as well. These are the resources we've created in the past, though feel free to have the creativity to go in a new direction, because we are definitely open to new perspectives. This is just for some reference.
