Jonan got their new web page design by running a design contest:
Design a cool sailing, online platform for racers
Check out Jonan's Web page design contest…
We provide web and mobile tools/apps that help sailing competitors during their regattas or during training and coaching.
Simple, interactive, minimalistic & brighter than the existing one. The less the clutter on the page, the better, even if we have to introduce some non-standard approaches.
1. Homepage - an overview, an exemplary tactical scenario (TactTube® excerpt), mobile apps presentation panes. 2. TactTube® - boat scenario editing & presenting page - similar, but much better, to the one currently existing on website. 3. Account management - list of regattas, purchases, personal info (short).
What to avoid
The less form-like (i.e. fill in the fields and click send) interaction, the better. Of course, for some places, it is unavoidable (e.g. contact info).
RegaTTac is currently a mobile app, aimed to help sailors in their races. However, it is intended to become a full educational platform for people who also coach sailing teams and conduct sailing clinics. Still, the idea for the web site is to stay compact, minimalistic, content oriented and interactive, as much as possible. Regarding the latter, it is preferred to have some non-standard way of interaction, which we believe is better, **and** put the efforts to educate the customers to use it efficiently, rather than abandoning this tool, because it is nonconventional. The current, existing web site marks some general ideas, and direction of development, but should not be considered as defining example. I'm not sure it is even a good one! There are at least few major aspects to be changed: - It is over-black - something fresher as a general color will serve butter; - The logo, and lots of the icons has changed, based on the new app design. There _is_ a new app design (images attached). - There should be a login/authentication/account functionality - a simple one. - Single-page approach won't be entirely possible, or efficient, still I imagine page reloads to be only for major functional-specific parts (described at the end). - The _scenario viewer_ (as found in the very beginning of the current site) should and will be greatly enhanced, providing the majority of the new functionality. So, here are the three main functionality sections of the new web site. 1. TactTube® - the boat/scenario visualization, edit, importer, etc. Should be optimized for desktop viewing, because this will most probably the case. 2. Apps showroom - a more attractive and compelling presentation of the mobile, with its different flavors. Optimized for mobile browsing. Part of the home page. 3. Other resources - short recommendations / links, etc. for third-party tools, books and ideas related to sail racing. Optimized for mobile browsing. Part of the home page. 4. Contacts/Account - links to facebook, twitter, instagram & email in an attractive way, along with account management. Should be ultra-easy on both desktop and mobile browser. A challenge would be optimization of different parts for different media (desktop vs. mobile) and still have them look well together!
