Mackess got their new web page design by running a design contest:
ManxCars.com - Create the coolest Car classifieds website
Check out Mackess's Web page design contest…
Car listings and car classifieds that allows the visitors to search for used cars from a wide range of car showrooms, view vehicle details and view photos.
*** INTRO *** The site http://www.ManxCars.com should be a car classifieds search website, where prospective buyers can find the cars they are interested in, based on their available budget and specific car type that they are interested in - but also for car dealers and private sellers to list their cars on a web portal for cars specific to the Isle of Man. *** LOOK & FEEL AND COLOURS *** The website should be bright and easy to read, stylish and with a modern look and feel. The colours of the logo and the website as we see it should mainly go in white, black and red. But obviously feel free to use other colours with this in mind and that it should have a cool and modern look. We are targeting car buyers. Would probably be cool to include a nice car in the top of the website as background, similar to how it is done here (but with a car instead of the motorcycle): http://www.visitisleofman.com/welcome.aspx *** TOP MENU / NAVIGATION *** The navigation should contain the following menu items: - HOME (#0 per below) - SEARCH CARS - CAR DEALERS - RENTALS - NEWS Please allow space for the logo in the top left corner and a 468x60 banner in the top right corner. *** WEBSITE LAYOUT *** The website should consist of 3 columns. - Left column: Be roughly 130px wide with 3 small widgets and a 120x120 banner in the bottom. - Middle column: This is where the main content is displayed, throughout the website. - Right column: A column consisting of a top widget with a specific featured/highlighted car/dealer followed by a 120x600 banner below. *** LOGO *** - The logo should be based on the website's name MANXCARS.COM and the idea is to incorporate the Isle of Man flag's symbol (the three legged triskelion) in the logo representing the "X" in "ManXCars.com". The three legs symbol should be modified to fit the look and feel of the website's logo. See the flag here: http://manxcars.com/iomflag.png *** FOOTER *** The footer on all pages should contain a copyright text like "(c) Copyright, 2012, ManxCars.com" and also 3 columns times 5-6 rows of footer links to specific car dealers and specific pre-defined search criteria for the "Search page", e.g. "Porsche", "Mercedes" etc. *** THE WEBSITE / PAGES WE WANT YOU TO DESIGN *** #0 MAIN PAGE See: http://www.manxcars.com/0.jpg The main page should consist of 4 main widgets a) "Find a car" with a search form allowing the visitor to enter the search parameters and once clicked the user should be redirected to the search page with the search results displayed (and search parameters filled in the top form instead). b) "Latest car news" - Displaying the 3-4 most recent News posts, from the website blog/news posting section. As seen here: http://www.manxcars.com/3.jpg c) "About the Dealers" - Displaying some brief info about 3-4 specific car dealers, with their logo and two links, one called "About" linking to a page about the car dealer and another called "Find us" showing where to find the car dealer on a map. d) "Showroom" - A decent sized photo with one car at a time, in a carousel displaying the name of the car/model, price and year. With a link in the bottom of the widget to "View car" to see the details of the car. #1. SEARCH PAGE See: http://manxcars.com/1.jpg Search form with fields to specify the type of car and budget the customer is interested in. Once the "Search button" is clicked the cars would be listed row by row, displaying a photo of the car and with options to sort the listed cars by top/down per each search parameter. #2. CAR DETAILS PAGE. See: http://manxcars.com/2.jpg This is the page that the visitor would by clicking the "More info" or "Details" link on the Main page in the search results list.
What to avoid
Don't make the look & feel too dark, it should be a website that is bright and easy to read and navigate.
