We need a Word Press web and mobile theme design for an online educational resource center designed specifically for independent learners as a supplement to school or homeschool. All lessons are designed in a specific “Get it” (give instruction), “Got It” (practice) and “Go” (apply it to real world or a larger project) structure. These are meant to encourage interactive learning and an understanding of why learning matters. Our learning center is distinctly different due to its focus on lessons that fit a learner’s personality and learning style. Once a student takes the learning style assessment, we can match them to resources designed for that type of student. We would like the design to capture this “you are one of a kind” feel (not those words). So the pictures we use could emphasize kids doing interesting things, the layout should be unique and the site friendly and upbeat. Our name--Elephango--was chosen for several reasons: The elephant has the largest brain of all land mammals and is known for its ability to remember what it has experienced. Elephants can remember voices and know when a voice is attached to an individual connected to a bad experience as well a voice that is connected to a good one. They communicate via touch and are therefore somewhat kinesthetic. Lastly, they have excellent visual memories and can remember a place that they have only experienced one time. Therefore, the elephant can be used to illustrate all three primary learning styles--auditory, visual and kinesthetic. An educator in India who was trying to understand the model of US education asked the following question: “In America you test your students as lot, don’t you?” And when confronted with the national policy on testing, replied, "Here, when we want the elephant to grow, we feed the elephant. We don't weigh the elephant." This struck me as an insightful view of education--we desire to feed children with information and experiences that will get them excited about learning. Our goal is not to "weigh" or measure them using tests that don't really get to the heart of what they know or can do. When learning is tied to testing, our kids work hard to pass the test and therefore often ignore the opportunity to dig deeper into topics or themes that interest them or that appeal to their natural gifts and abilities. By providing opportunities for students to explore their passions and interests and take ownership of their own education, we hope to encourage them to find reward in the learning itself. Target Market: Children Pre-K-12 with a focus on more educated families who understand the value of education and need an option to supplement what they are currently doing. Predominantly our audience will be kids from grade 3-10. We will need to appeal to Moms and perhaps Grandparents to get them into the site. These parents and grandparents are involved in their kids lives and see the value of education. Need to appeal to the parents and teachers from a validity in education standpoint but we also need to appeal to the kids from an emotional standpoint. Value Proposition: Helping students connect learning to life with trusted and engaging resources that provide motivation through interactive lessons, games, and rewards to excite and inspire. Tagline: Where Learning Comes to Life! Key Messaging: A playground of wisdom awaits your child in Elephango. Unite a student’s innate longing to learn with a world of resources that inspire them to go beyond their limits. Elephango is where learning comes to life.
We intend a complete overhaul of the current website. URL above is simply to show the content we intend to include. The screenshots on this site are of the current design version and color scheme so those screenshots will be changing with the updated look and branding. Images should never have people looking out at the viewer. Always students engaged in activity of some kind whether thinking, moving, on a computer, etc.
